Preventing and controlling the spread of disease are vital to the health and well-being of Lawrence County residents. Healthcare providers, laboratories, and other testing facilities are required by law to report certain diseases to health departments in Ohio. When reports come to Lawrence County Health Department, our nursing staff and epidemiology staff review the reports in a timely manner, conduct interviews of patients (and their contacts, depending on the disease), submit required information to the Ohio Department of Health, and refer patients to an infectious disease doctor or other healthcare provider, if needed. We work closely with the regional epidemiologist, the Ohio Department of Health, and other health departments on investigations to manage and control communicable diseases. To report an infectious disease, please call 740-532-3962. This is a 24/7/365 number.
